Riki Fujitani President
Riki Fujitani is the founding President of Hoike. He has guided the company's growth since its inception, to its current ranking as one of Hawaii's top Information Technology service providers. Mr. Fujitani's wealth of leadership, business, legal and technical skills and experience continually drives the organization to develop new, innovative and customized products and services for its clients.
Prior to Hoike, Mr. Fujitani served as the Vice President of Information Technology for an $80 million property and casualty insurance carrier. Mr. Fujitani began his career gaining legal expertise as an attorney working on large and complex commercial litigation cases, involving product liability, construction, and breach of contract claims. He obtained advanced product management skills and first-hand knowledge and expertise in technology related sales, marketing, research and design from previous positions with IBM, Dimensional Fund Advisors and TRW Electronic Systems Group.
Mr. Fujitani obtained his law degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law at the University of Hawaii (Manoa); his Masters of Business Administration from the Anderson Graduate School of Management at the University of California at Los Angeles; and, his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.
Kevin Awaya
Chief Technology Officer (CTO) General Manager
Kevin Awaya is Hoike's Chief Technology Officer and lead architect of the company's enterprise-class content management solutions. In addition, Mr. Awaya serves as Hoike's General Manager and is responsible for business development, professional services, and product development.
Prior to joining Hoike, Mr. Awaya was the e-Business Manager for a $100M+ property and casualty insurance carrier in Hawaii. In this position, Mr. Awaya was responsible for the design, implementation and management of the company's Internet initiatives.
Previously, Mr. Awaya served as a Technical Consultant with KPMG Consulting, where he successfully developed and deployed ERP solutions and systems to KPMG’s multinational clients. Some of his responsibilities included the development of the Japanese version of PeopleSoft, database architecture and administration for global commodities trading solutions and network assessment and redesign for Fortune 500 clients.
Mr. Awaya received his Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Hawaii Pacific University, and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (M.C.S.E.)
Sherilyn M. Fukuji Kimura
Vice President, Consulting
Sherilyn Kimura is Vice President of Consulting for Hoike. Ms. Kimura is responsible for the overall management and direction of Hoike's consulting practice. Prior to Hoike, Ms. Kimura served as the Information Technology Department Project Manager for Hawaii's largest independently owned and managed insurance carrier. Ms. Kimura has over 14 years of senior management consulting experience in the consulting field, with KPMG Consulting (BearingPoint). As Senior Manager, she focused on Project Management, Strategic Planning, Business Process Improvement, Requirements Development, and System Selection and Implementation.
Ms. Kimura received her Masters in Business Administration in Finance and Marketing from Pepperdine University, and her Bachelor of Science in Commerce in Accounting from Santa Clara University. Ms. Kimura is Certified by the Project Management Institute (PMP), and is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Ms. Kimura is involved in a number of community organizations, including Hawaii Meals on Wheels, as a member of its Board of Directors and Treasurer; Yonabaru Chojin Kai; and, the Nu'uanu YMCA Hawaiian Studies Program where she serves as a volunteer.
Pamela Watanabe Vice President, Software Development
Ms. Watanabe has over 15 years of software programming and development experience. The majority of her career was spent as a manager and programmer for a locally owned Property and Casualty insurance company. She brings to Hoike a deep knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry having created and developed software systems that have enabled the company to improve its operations and better serve its clients. Ms. Watanabe’s extensive experience also includes being responsible for creating and developing major conversions from legacy systems to new systems as well as managing system conversions for Y2K compliance. She began her career, in software design and development, coding in Assembler for Naval Shipboard Warfare simulation programs in San Diego, California. Respected for her programming expertise and management skills, Ms. Watanabe continues to strive towards excellence as she leads her software development team in developing and maintaining systems that provide the best value to Hoike’s clients.
Ms. Watanabe earned her B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Ms. Rona M. Suzuki General Manager, Hoike Networks
As the General Manager for Hoike Networks, Ms. Suzuki is responsible for the overall management and direction of the Hoike Networks’ business unit that provides systems planning, design, and implementation, maintenance and improvement services. Prior to joining Hoike, Ms. Suzuki provided project management, consulting and training services to a variety of organizations, focusing on strategic planning, team facilitation and business process improvement, to improve organizational performance. She has served as the coordinator for the Hawaii Award of Excellence, which is based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria for Performance Excellence.
Ms. Suzuki’s 15 years of professional experience spans state and local government, not-for-profit and private organizations. Ms. Suzuki holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Government from Claremont McKenna College and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is also an American Society of Quality - Certified Quality Manager, Franklin Covey Certified Facilitator and Certified Meyers-Briggs Temperament Indicator Administrator. Ms. Suzuki also serves as the Board Chair for the Alliance for Drama Education, Capacity Building Chair for the Aloha United Way, and board member for the American Society of Quality – Hawaii Section.
Karla Merry General Manager, Claims Software Applications
Since joining Hoike in 2001, Karla Merry has been responsible for implementing numerous call centers for businesses within the state of Hawaii and continues to operate Hoike’s co-location call center. Ms. Merry has over 10 years of Management experience and has over 15 years of industry experience in Insurance, Disability Management, Call Centers and Telecom.
Ms. Merry is currently the General Manager for Hoike’s Claims Software Application Development Group.
Prior to joining Hoike, Ms. Merry provided management expertise as a consultant to multi-national corporations.
Ms. Merry received her Bachelors in Business Administration at Walla Walla College and spent three years studying international business and economic development in the United Kingdom.
Ms. Merry is a Certified Professional Disability Manager.
